Dante's Inferno

When beginning this project, I immediately knew I wanted to work with charcoal. It’s not something I have a lot of practice with, but I’ve always loved how personal and stark this medium is. You really have to be in touch with the medium, adding and smudging with direct contact, connecting you to the art piece and story that is being created. I also thought charcoal would be perfect to depict the dark atmosphere of Inferno. 

For this project, I aimed to use charcoal, soft pastels, and oil pastels to express the emotions that Dante experiences while exploring this dark, ominous world. Over the course of this project, I feel like not only have I learned more about how to work with charcoal, but I’ve also learned more about myself and discovered more about my personal art style.
